It’s all about pop culture in the 20th century.
Using a laser cutter, and incredibly thin paper, Lisa Allen reimagines iconic images and art.
“With paper, if you make a mistake, it’s not that big of a deal. But, I am basically burning the paper,” she said. “I call myself an artist, but I feel like I’m more of a computer programmer…so with the laser, I have to know the speed, the power, the line density. I’m using one millimeter paper, so I mean, I could incinerate that if I had the settings wrong.”
Each piece is titled using a famous person’s first and middle name. Like Audrey Kathleen, Elvis Aaron, and Michael Joseph.
Her work will be featured as Artist of the Month for the Bay City Arts Center through the month of February. An open house and artist reception will be hosted February 7, 5-7 p.m. Free and open to the public.
